MILBY CEMETERY

JACKSON COUNTY, TEXAS

Cemetery is located approximately 7 miles from the town of Edna, off of the Navidad Farm to Market Road #822.  This cemetery is located on private property and is not open to the public for viewing.

This is a very small cemetery, but a very important one none the less.  Robert Mortimer Milby Sr. is buried here.  He was born in Sussex County, Delaware in 1806 and came to Texas  in the early 1830's and is considered as one of the early settlers of Jackson County. He purchased land along the Lavaca River and set up a blacksmith shop, which was the first one in Jackson County.  He married Mary Ann Whitson on March 10, 1842 and they had seven children.  One of their sons, William Benjamin Milby is buried here also.  Ben Milby was Sheriff and Collector of Taxes from 1890 until his death in 1897.
